I like it a lot but prolonged use of this very large knife without gloves could present a problem. It would destroy your hands in a very short time. Very rough texture to the extreme. On the other hand, it does give a very secure grip/grasp possible short-term like in a combat situation. I didn't take a star because I do like it a lot and the problem could be fixed with a belt sander by grinding of the rough edges. By the way, the sheath is of very high quality giving two methods of carrying. After reading some of the one-star reviews, I just came back to say my knife is the green micarta handle version and I found none of the criticisms valid expressed by one-star rating buyers. My knife was razor sharp and the workmanship is outstanding.Originally I didn't think I'd like this knife that much. Honestly I bought this as a tackle box knife for fishing and general out door beating. It's still going to get used for that but.... just wow. This thing is absolutely fantastic, I didn't think I'd like it nearly as much as I do. It's honestly the best bowie I've ever seen. I can't imagine a more perfect bowie. And the sheath is just so damn innovative while being high quality and classy. I inadvertently bought an outdoor partner for life. The only downside is that it comes with a pretty thick edge that I needed to thin... but that doesn't bother me as I do that with all my knives any ways. Warning though, this doesn't sharpen up easily or quickly. This is a tough, wear resistant steel that will fight you every inch of the wayThis is my first acquisition from Boker and I must say...WOW! I have MANY knives in my collection but this one almost instantly went to the podium in terms of first impressions. The stone washed mirror finish is absolutely exquisite as is the carved/ribbed wooden handle. Everything is very snug, tight, and flawlessly finished. The blade has a very acceptable level of sharpness for a knife of this size. If you want it surgeon-razor sharp you may want to tune it up yourself although honestly the factory edge is more than adequate for its intended purpose. I'm honestly not super familiar with the steel that it is made with, however, I have heard some several sources that it is a high-end steel that provides great service. The sheath adds a very special level of characterization to an already impressive piece. The leather is well stitched, defined, and finished to a smooth, glossy aura. My only advice is push a number 2 pencil through the pin hole to stretch it out a little bit. Out of the box its very difficult to undo the the leather band from the pin. An hour or so of pencil therapy will make it much easier whilst still being quite secure. If you are willing to drop the coin on the price-tag this is an excellent addition to any collection. Whether you want to show it off in a case or on your belt, this beast will not disappoint!Beautiful but not sharpOnly one third of the blade at tip area was sharpComfortable in hand, straight edge good grind, perfect size for fine and gross work. The Guayacan Ebony Knife was not completely sharp, The bolts in the handle were painted black, they seem stainless in the pics. The package was slightly damaged. And the knife handle had some very minor damage/blemish to the ebony, could use some internal padding for shipping. Lastly, the sheath had some minor blemishes on the corner of the leading edge. After sending this knife back I begrudgingly reordered the micarta version. The fit and finish were impeccable and razor sharp out of the box. Amazing what two different machinists can do. Would be five stars if I ordered the micarta first. When it comes to fine blades, Boker knives speak for themselves. This is an excellent example of the outstanding craftsmanship that Boker knives are known for. The mirror finish is clear enough to comb your hair while you admire the heft and weight of this superbly crafted fixed blade. It's also as sharp as a scalpel straight out of the box.Handle very light green micarta, edge needs work out of box on the one I received. Have spent more money on knives I like less? Balance is a bit too centered for a sheath knife. It wants to sit sideways on the dangle, but sheath has many innovative features. This knife made in Argentina.Good:1. Blade steel: N695, a little better than 440C2. Precise machinery, but not perfect.3. Thick blade, around 6 mm, but very sharp out of the box.4. Full tang, comfortable handle. The bad:1. Sheath carrying system - not the best, made for right-handed only.2. No lanyard hole.At this price expected more attention to the carrying system, but other than that - this knife is of high quality.Greetings,A great knife with a bizarre handle, not comfortable at all.Regards and Season's Greetings,Frédérick TurgeonVery pleased with my purchase. Everything was A+
