(POLL) Wedding Registry 101: The Best Cutlery Sets Under $200

Mrs. Penguin January 1, 1970

What knives and cutlery sets should we register for. I felt a whole wave of emotions when we got around to registering for knives (dramatic, I know). We had to think hard about how important it was for us to register for chef grade knives (which could easily cost over $100 per knife. ) or for us to register for a reasonably-priced set that, for our home kitchen needs, would probably suffice. Ultimately we decided to go with the more affordable route, and chose a knife set that hovered around $200. After doing a lot of research, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of knife sets we could find at this price point. To choose a good set of knives, there are a few things you need to know. First, the chef’s knife, usually 8+ inches long, that’s used for chopping and slicing. Third, a utility knife, which is essentially a smaller, easier-to-maneuver version of a chef’s knife and is typically used to cut fruits and vegetables. Finally, a pairing knife, the smallest of the bunch, is used for peeling and coring. Other knives that are great to have in your set include a serrated bread knife, and a carving knife. Scissors are a good bonus too, but you can easily buy (or register for) a pair of kitchen shears separately from your set. Forged knives (versus stamped knives) are a bonus.
